Writing Coach

Salary:
$13,000 for the term; potential of $2,500 bonus
Job Description:
The Graduate School of Business at Stanford is seeking to hire four to seven Writing Coaches to work part time during the fall 2007 quarter evaluating students’ writing and providing developmental feedback to students for improvement. Coaches will work with a tenured faculty member who is teaching two 15-student sections of Critical Analytical Thinking (CAT), a required course for first year MBA students. Work can be done from a remote location, but preference will be given to Bay Area candidates. At a minimum all coaches will be on campus for meetings the week of September 15 and the week of October 13. Past coaches spent, on average, about 30 hours per week evaluating student writing and consulting with students.
Academic Qualifications:
- Masters degree (or higher) in English, Communication, or related field
- Experience in coaching graduate students or executives in a demanding program
- Experience with both business writing and academic writing expectations
- Passion for supporting and assisting students at all levels of writing proficiency
Experience Requirements:
- Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Strong detail orientation and organizational skills
- Proficient with MS Office and basic web-based communication and course management tools
